    I. Master of Business Administration
    
    The Master of Business Administration Program at the University of Macau is offered by the international staff of the Faculty of Business Administration who have designed the graduate curriculum as a series of skill-building courses and character-broadening experiences.
    
    OBJECTIVES
    
    The general objective of the program is to provide managers of business and governmental organizations with the knowledge and skills needed for professional success, and to prepare them to take on executive responsibilities in a complex business environment.
    
    The MBA Program recognizes that managers in today’s ever-expanding business world must be prepared to handle a variety of challenges.  A manager needs not only to master his or her own specific area of business expertise, but must also be able to:
    
    ♦  Lead others, whether in a group, a department, or at the forefront of a company;
    ♦  Effectively investigate and resolve complex problems in their organizations; and
    ♦  Understand the strategic implications of the global business environment.
    
    To accommodate these needs, the MBA Program offers the student the appropriate skills through a staff of local and invited international scholars.
    
    ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
    
    Admission is open to applicants who hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in any area of undergraduate study, and can demonstrate proficiency in written and spoken English.  Applicants may need to provide TOEFL or IELTS scores in proof of their English proficiency if required.  GMAT scores are also recommended but not compulsory. 
    
    Applicants must have at least 2 years full-time work experience before the registration period at the end of August 2010.  If necessary, applicants may be required to provide the documents certifying full-time employment experience.
    
    MEDIUM of INSTRUCTION
    
    The medium of instruction in the MBA Program at the University of Macau is English, although, on occasion, some invited guest speakers may deliver their lectures in Cantonese or Putonghua (Mandarin Chinese).
    
    COURSE TIME & VENUE
    
    The MBA Program runs for 2 years, from September 2010 to August 2012. The coursework runs for three consecutive semesters, and students are normally given until the end of the 4th semester to complete their theses. Classes will be held on the University of Macau campus on weekday evenings (6:30 p.m. - 9:30 p.m.), and on Saturday afternoons (2 p.m. - 5 p.m.) if necessary, or on weekends for specially designated courses.

    II. Master of Science in Accounting
    
    The Master of Science in Accounting Program at the University of Macau is offered by the Faculty of Business Administration. The program has been designed as a series of skill-building courses in accounting from technical communication skills to corporate decision-making skills and eventually to develop academic research capability.
    
    OBJECTIVES
    
    The program aims:
    
    a) to provide solid training in the principal areas of professional accounting so as to develop analytical skills in solving accounting and finance related problems.
    b) to provide significant knowledge in the latest international reporting standards, business ethics, corporate governance and corporate social responsibility.
    c) to provide a springboard toward gaining a first class professional accounting qualification (e.g. Macau CPA, ACCA, CPA Australia, etc).
    
    ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
    
    Admission will be in accordance with the University Admission Regulations on Master’s Degree. In addition, applicants are required to provide TOEFL or IETLS scores for proof of their English proficiency if the language of instruction in their undergraduate studies is not English. GMAT or GRE scores are also recommended.

    English (except China Taxation which may be taught in Chinese or a combination of English and Chinese)

    III. Master of Science in Finance
    
    The Master of Science in Finance Program is designed to broaden students' understanding of theories in finance and their practical implications so as to enhance the students' skills for successful careers in the financial sector.
    
    OBJECTIVES
    
    This program aims at offering students the appropriate skills:
    a. to meet the need for advanced level professional in finance because of the rapid development of industries such as real estate, banking, insurance and gaming, and so on; 
    b. to prepare students to take professional qualifications such as Chartered Finance Analysis (CFA) or Certified Financial Planners (CFP); and
    c. to prepare students to apply top regional and international doctoral programs in finance.
    
    ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
    
    Admission is open to applicants who hold bachelor degrees from areas as stated in (a) below from accredited institutions in any area of undergraduate studies, and can demonstrate proficiency in written and spoken English. Applicants are required to provide TOEFL or IELTS score in proof of their English proficiency, although GMAT or GRE score is preferred.
    
    Applicants should possess:
    
    (a)  bachelor degrees in finance, economics, applied mathematics, applied science, statistics, computer science, engineering, or other quantitative fields;
    (b)  cumulative GPA of 2.8 or equivalent;

    中文法学硕士学位课程

    
    
    简介
    澳大法学院从 2001年9月起 开设中文法学硕士及学位后证书课程。
    
    一. 教学目的
    中文法学硕士及学位后证书课程旨在提高学生的研究能力和学术水平，使母语为中文的本地和非本地具法律学位的人士有机会继续深入研习法律。
    
     二. 录取条件
    报读法学硕士课程者必须具有法学专业法学士学位。本科成绩平均在二十分制之十四分或以上者可直接录取。平均成绩低于二十分制之十四分者须进行面试或经招聘委员会推荐录取，在此种情况下，将考虑报考者的学术成绩和工作经验。
    
    三. 教学语言
    本课程教学语言为中文。
   
    四. 修读年限
    法学硕士课程第一学年为课堂教学，第二学年撰写提交论文和进行论文答辩，提交论文的时间可按有关规章延长。
    
    五. 毕业条件
    硕士研究生必须修完三门必修课和三门选修课，共24个学分且每科成绩至少为二十分制之十四分。此外还须提交硕士论文并通过答辩委员会主持的论文答辩。
    
    六. 一般规则
    澳门大学之一般规则及本法学院其它硕士课程之一般规则均对本课程适用。

    简介
    为了加强澳门历史上作为中国及欧洲各国交流之桥梁作用，以及鉴于中国与欧洲及世界各国不断增强的联系，因此开设欧洲联盟法、国际法和比较法的法学硕士及学位后证书课程以便培养更多欧洲联盟法、比较法和国际法领域的符合资格的法律人材、专业人士和学者。
    
    一、 课程目的
    - 进行在欧洲联盟法、国际法和比较法领域的高等教育和研究；
    - 确立并加强澳门大学法学院作为本地区研究澳门法律、欧洲大陆法、国际法和比较法的重要学术机构的地位。
    
    二. 学位结构
    颁授以下三专业之硕士学位：
    - 欧洲联盟法；
    - 国际法；
    - 比较法。
    
    三. 申请入学要求
    申请人须符合以下要求：
    - 具有法学士学位。具有相关专业经验而无法学士学位之人士可获特别准许递交申请；

    欧洲联盟法专业

    国际商法硕士学位课程

    
    一、 目的
    
    鉴于澳门特别行政区的需要，本课程为法律、经济和社会方面专业人士提供培训，使之能在澳门、本区域及国际上从事与商业有关的法律工作。对于不具法律学位的学员，本课程重要目标是为其提供一个渠道，以学习国际商法、区域商法和澳门商法及相关法律知识。本课程招收非法律人士，为从事商业活动（如银行、保险、贸易、房地产或其它金融或经济活动）的人士提供学习规范商业交易的国际法的机会。
    
    二、 申请入学要求
    
    - 硕士学位课程之申请人须具有法学士学位。具有相关专业经验而无法学士学位之人士可获特别准许入读硕士学位课程；
    - 良好英语水平(将参照托福考试或其它认可之英语测试成绩)；
    - 申请人可能需要通过面试；

    • ENGLISH STUDIES AND APPLIED ENGLISH
    
    INTRODUCTION
    
    The Department of English, in the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities at the University of Macau, offers two MA programmes: the MA in English Studies and the MA in Applied English.  These two programmes cover many of the same areas, but the essential difference is the number of courses taken and the length and nature of the required thesis.
    
    Now that English is an important language of understanding and communication in modern Southeast Asian society, the demand for personnel with high-level ability in the field is ever increasing, and either of these two MA programmes may be suitable to students' academic interests and professional development.  English is both a tool and skill to be used in communication and, as the first language of many millions of people; it is also the cultural product of a long historical process, and deeply rewarding for those who wish to study it.  The MA programmes are thus designed to develop the students' skills as language users but also to offer them a fuller understanding of the cultures connected to this important language, and how it is used today.
    
    The MA in English Studies and the MA in Applied English Programmes are intended for students currently working in English education or in other areas requiring advanced knowledge of the language and its literature who wish to develop a liberal education in English Language and Literature. The courses of the programmes emphasise the development of sophisticated reading, writing and critical analysis skills as well as knowledge of the cultural context of English language use. Such studies provide an education that is relevant to a diversity of professional goals. At the same time, students who wish to pursue studies in English beyond the MA receive a solid foundation for such work by means of elective specialisation in literature or linguistics.
    
    The MA in English Studies is a two-year Master's Degree course where students spend the first year taking eight courses in various areas of English Studies — Literature, Linguistics and Translation — and then proceed on to a second year in which they write a research thesis.  The purpose of this course is to provide students with advanced-level understanding and skills in the area of English Studies, and is especially suitable for those with an interest in advanced academic research who might wish to go on to study for a PhD.  The first year of course work develops the students' knowledge of English as an academic and skills-based subject, while the second year, or thesis year, trains them as researchers to develop a complex investigative project.
    
    The MA in Applied English is a two-year Master's Degree course in which students take twelve courses - eight in the first year and four in the second year - in the areas of Literature, Linguistics, and Translation Studies.  In the second year they also write a thesis in which they are required to investigate a subject through research, or through research and practical application. As the purpose of this course is to provide students with advanced-level understanding and skills in the area of English, this programme is especially suitable for those who plan to use English in practical application. This could be as English teachers, English-Chinese / Chinese-English translators and interpreters, or any other areas where a sound knowledge of English is a professional requirement. The twelve courses taken over two years allow students a broad knowledge of various areas in English. The thesis component of the course enables students to gain a specialised knowledge in a particular area with the emphasis on practical application of that research.
    
    In summary, students in the MA in English Studies Programme will take eight courses and then write an extended research thesis on a particular topic.  Students taking the MA in Applied English will take twelve courses over two years and the thesis will be written also in the second year.  This thesis will be of an applied nature, such as investigating a particular idea with practical application in the classroom, or working on a translation project with critical commentary.

    ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
    
    Applicants should have achieved the equivalent* of an overall result of Grade C+ or better in the Bachelor’s degree studies.
    * The equivalent means 2.3 on the 4.0 GPA scale, 14 on the 20-point scale or 70 out of 100.
    
    LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS
    
    The classes will be taught in English. A student is required to submit a thesis written in English and has an oral defence in English on that thesis.
    
    COURSE DURATION
    
    The normal period of study is two academic years (24 months). The first year is assigned to course work and the second year to thesis preparation.
    
    NUMBER OF STUDENTS
    
    The University of Macau, through the Faculty of Social Sciences & Humanities, will accept a minimum number of 10 and a maximum number of 25 students for each programme. Additional applicants will be put on a waiting list.
    
    CRITERIA FOR SELECTION
    
    All applicants will be required to sit an Entrance Assessment in which their skills and abilities in English Linguistics and Literature will be tested.  Applicants will also be required to attend an interview.  Those candidates applying from outside Macao will be interviewed by telephone and will be required to complete the Entrance Assessment by electronic format.
    
    Applicants will be selected according to the following criteria: a) the educational curriculum vitae of the applicant; b) the applicant's performance in undergraduate study; c) the applicant's work experience; d) the applicant's performance in the Entrance Assessment and Interview.
    
    The selection of applications will be made on the recommendation of a panel appointed by the University Graduate Studies Committee. One of the panel members must be the Co-ordinator of the MA in English Studies Programme. Appeals against the panel's decision will not be accepted except in cases of verified procedural errors.
    
    GENERAL RULES
    
    The registration and enrolment conditions, as well as the evaluation, classification and attendance requirements of the programme are similar to those of the Bachelor programmes of the University of Macau. Students should attend at least 80% of the total course hours. Students who do not meet the attendance requirement will be failed in the course concerned. The award of the degree complies with the laws governing higher education in Macao.
    
    PROGRAMME REGULATIONS
    
    ? In order to obtain an MA in English Studies, students must complete the compulsory and elective courses, pass all examinations and write a thesis under a designated supervisor.
    ? Upon successful completion of course work, students will choose the subject of their research under the guidance of their thesis supervisors.
    ? A panel of examiners will be appointed to examine the thesis itself and conduct an oral examination on the subject of the thesis.

    BACKGROUND
    
    In a world faced with dynamic and ever-changing communication technologies and a growing information industry, the University of Macau takes the lead in the new era of e-communication in the western Pearl River Delta Region.  We have designed a graduate programme to meet the challenges of the contemporary media environment.  The programme leads to a Master of Arts degree in the field of Communication and New Media.
    
    This Master programme aims to help current and prospective communication professionals attain theoretical knowledge and skills in mass communication and digital media, and their social and cultural effects.  The rapid development of the Internet, World Wide Web, Multi-media Technology, and the IT industry has created a new horizon for communication industries and for communication studies.  Understanding the uses, effects, and consequences of these technologies will help position professionals more competitively in the industry.  Further, students who wish to pursue studies beyond the M.A. receive a solid foundation for such work.
    
    All courses in the programme are conducted entirely in English.  Therefore, aside from the course content, students also benefit from an improved ability to communicate effectively in written and spoken English.
    
    ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
    
    Applicants should have achieved the equivalent* of an overall result of Grade C+ or better in the Bachelor’s degree studies.
    * The equivalent means 2.3 on the 4.0 GPA scale, 14 on the 20-point scale or 70 out of 100.
    
    All applicants MUST have a minimum TOEFL score of 550 unless they:
    • have obtained a grade C or above in the Use of English in the Advanced Level Examinations; or
    • hold a Bachelor’s degree in English from a recognized university; or
    • produce other proof of English proficiency accepted by the admissions committee.

    PROGRAMME REGULATIONS
    
    • In order to obtain this degree, students should complete six compulsory and two required elective courses (24 credits), pass all examinations, and write a thesis in English under a designated supervisor.
    • Upon successful completion of course work, students will choose the subject of their thesis under the guidance of their supervisors.  All supervisors should hold a doctoral degree or equivalent qualifications.
    • A panel of examiners will be appointed to examine the thesis itself and conduct an oral examination on the subject of that thesis.  The examination board should consist of at least three members.  All examiners should hold a doctoral degree.
    
    GENERAL RULES
